Holbrooke v. Clinton?

If Holbrooke really is lobbying for Secretary of State, that's got to be pretty awkward vis a vis Hillary. He's been a close advisor of hers--and Bill's--for quite some time.

Or maybe he's just positioning himself to be the fallback if Bill's global foundation laundry turns out to be too dirty for Obama.

What RP said.  Unlike Hillary, Holbrooke actually has a record of achievement as a diplomat.  His ties to the investment banking industry would cause some political fallout (he had high-level positions at both Lehman Bros. and AIG, although I'm not sure when he left Lehman), but that's a small price to pay if Obama thinks he's the best guy for the job.

While we're musing about Holbrooke v. Clinton, it might be worth taking a look back at the jockeying

I assume Holbrooke would play a large role in a Hillary State Dept.  So would Dennis Ross.  Isn't the best way to get all three of those folks to put Hillary in the top spot?  Doesn't she make both of them Deputys?
