Maybe John McCain is actually a lizard.
My roommate also points out that this is a rather big "tongue jut," as Nate Silver calls it.

No photoshop there. That occurred at the end of the debate when McCain was doing his mcshuffle deciding which side of the desks to go around to shake Bob Schieffer's hand.
I noticed throughout the debate that McCain kept licking his lips like a lizard. His tongue would dart out and flick before answering a question. That someone caught this one from the side makes McCain look truly crazy-like.
I found the context for the photo: The moderator had just shaken Obama's hand first, and McCain was walking to his right toward the side of the table where the moderator was facing. Then the moderator moved back to his right, McCain's left, to greet McCain, and McCain made this gesture, as if "dancing" with someone in a hallway where you both keep trying to let the other pass by moving in the same direction. McCain turns back to his left and comes around the table.
So alas, there is a perfectly prosaic explanation, and McCain was not trying to lick Obama's backside after all. Almost make me say "poor guy." I wonder if this photo will be the equivalent of when poor Bob Dole fell off the stage?
Sort of a metaphor for the campaign eh? Here's McCain trying to reach out to the media, and then this Obama fella comes along and totally mod-blocks him.
Wow what a shot, you know if Obama had made such a face it would be Drudge's homepage shot for the rest of the campaign, needless to say I don't see it there now for McCain.
I think this was a shout out to Gene Simmons fans, a key McCain demographic.
