Track Palin's Temper

This seems a little bizarre, no?

The temper was a longstanding problem. Hockey is a raw sport, but Track pushed the limits and often got kicked out of games in Wasilla and at least once in Michigan. The parents who had watched Track grow up on the ice said he was very popular with his teammates and generally a pretty good student. But on the ice, he was an animal.

Curt Menard, a longtime family friend, said he would often sit next to Ms. Palin’ s parents to watch their grandson play. If Mr. Menard arrived after the game started, he said, he would ask if he was too late to catch Track.

“Track has a temper so sometimes you’d only see him half the game,” Mr. Menard said. “Get there late and he’d already be out.”

I guess I'd be worried if I were the landscapers for the Rose Garden, because Track would undoubtedly hold tackle-football tourneys there.  Then again, the utter destruction of the Rose Garden would mean more work for the landscapers, who undoubtedly need more hours now that people can't even afford homes, let alone yard upkeep.

Obama said the kids should be off limits, and I agree. Not only is this kind of coverage odious, it distracts from the real issues..........and if the election is determined on the real issues, Obama wins. Please take this whole thread down, TNR.

Crock1701:  Yep, I thought it was a verb "Track [Sarah] Palin's Temper"  Hoping to have some good stories that might complement John McCain's legendary temper. Meltdowns at Wasilla (?) town council meetings.

But for the son's hockey?  As AlanSP says "Who cares?

Yeah, I came here to track Palin's temper and all I hear about is Track Palin's temper. What a gyp!

I second the proposal of baxterjones. Not that bizarre, really, and certainly not relevant. And yes, I too thought "Track" was a verb.

I did too.   Wonder what they will name Bristol''s kid.  Perhaps we can have a contest to suggest a name.

Let's keep the kids out of it. Besides, this has nothing to do with Palin's preparedness/fitness for being VP.

This is a non-issue. Seriously.  First kids are off limits. Secondly  kids display anger when playing. Part of the job of a good coach is to tell the boy to knock off  the drama.  Presumably, it he got out of line, he would be put in the penalty box

Noam you have an enviable position at the TNR. Try not to abuse  it by posting this nonsense

Also thought "Track" was a verb.  Also wondering what this was doing here.  Also firmly convinced there's more damaging stuff on Palin et al to be found than this.  Also wondering why it's not appearing here instead of this.

Yeah, I thought it was tracking Sarah Palin's temper, a legitimate issue.  Track being tossed from hockey games is not.  I'm a normal person who received a fair number of red cards for aggressive play in high school soccer.

Anybody else notice that Levi's dropped out of school?  Bristol picked a real winner there...

Yes, yes, yes!  There are incredibly serious issues in play in this campaign, not the least of which is the press's supine response to McCain's hiding of Sarah Palin from the press.

TNR has a responsibility to practice serious journalism, not this sort of trivial baloney.

Please, Mr. Scheiber, use your intelligence, and your energy, on something of substance.

I love TNR, and have subscribed for years.  But the proliferation of idle and pointless posts, partly something that seems to come with the internet territory, is really disturbing.

For goodness sake, more substance, less horse-race, more seriousness.

Why the hell is this a Stump item? Who cares? How is this an appropriate subject? What is it supposed to tell us?

How would you have responded ten years ago, Noam, if your editor had suggested you write an item about Chelsea Clinton's behaviour on the soccer field?

Jeez. Leave this freakshow stuff to the Republicans.

1. TNR, I don't see how Track Palin has any relevance here, unless McCain decides to give him a government post. There's a whole mess of actual, relevant Sarah Palin nonsense available to comment on.

2. People. don't name your children with verbs.

After reading recent posts by Scheiber and Chait, I think I have figured out the taxonomy of writers at TNR:

Obama supporters = Crowley, Judis, Cohn

Obamanauts = Fairbanks, Orr, Zengerle

Obamanuts = Chait, Scheiber

I don't get it. I started out thinking that everyone here was overreacting. Because I thought initially that Scheiber was saying the NY Times article was bizarre. But after reading the article, it really seems that he took the quote out of context from an interesting article, and article that manages to get Track and Bristol's fiance both in as well as give genuine insight into the world of ice hockey that Palin refers to when she says she's a hockey mom.

It's a positive article for Palin -- it says that as a hockey mom, she didn't try to influence the coaching like so many parents do. In other words, while she likes the lipstick joke, in real life, she was NOT that kind of hockey mom. And it show s that Track chose the military instead of getting serious with hockey. Which again, is a positive for the demographic who cares about that sort of thing.

Okay, Track's behavior on the hockey field is totally irrelevant. But I think it would be something of an issue if, as the National Enquirer claims, he was a hardcore Oxycontin abuser. The NE is also claiming that Bristol was banished from the house for a time after becoming pregnant, and will soon role out their allegation that Sarah cheated on Todd with Todd's business partner.

Yes, John Edwards aside, the Enquirer has been quite wrong at times and without convincing sourcing people deserve a presumption of innocence. And yes, Al Gore's son has had his washup moments too, and lots of good parents have problem kids. But nobody votes for Al Gore because of his dad credentials. Sarah Palin's appeal has largely come from her self-proclaimed super hockey mom status. And if she was actually a vengeful, cheating mom with two messed up kids, that blows up a big part of her identity.

Incidentally, if she did cheat on Todd, that would be two adulterers on a presidential ticket. Has that ever happened before?
