Cindy McCain is Being a Little Rich

Via The Page, I see that Cindy McCain will be on Stephanopoulos tomorrow fulminating against Obama's convention speech:

"I'm offended by Barack Obama saying that about my husband," said McCain's wife Cindy.

When asked if Obama went too far in his criticism of McCain, Cindy responded, "I do. I do. I really do."

McCain also said beer distributorship her father built, which is the source of much her family's wealth, typifies the American Dream.

"My father had nothing. He and my mother sold everything they had to raise $10,000," she said. "I'm proud of what my dad and my mother did and what they built and left me. And I intend to carry their legacy as long as I can."

Hmmm. That's one version of how her father made his money. You can read the real version here.

Cindy dear - a piece of advice.  Keep out of the debate and go back to your meds.  Politics is not your forte.

Cindy always appears pinched and outraged these days, her energy is as warm as an icicle.  I have always admired her work with children in war zones, so I'll leave it at that.  But I wish someone would ask her to smile more, to talk about something - anything - positive.  I''d bet that person is in there somewhere, God I hope so.  She's giving me nightmares like this.

Stop being a patronizing asshole, icarus.

Cindy as an American has every right to speak her mind.

Even spouses of candidates have first amendment rights.

Besides the medicalization of politics is the last refuge of the fanatical true believer.

You probably learned it from the Soviets.

Cindy McCain puts Michelle Obama to shame in every way imaginable... most important being her lifelong commitment to helping those less fortunate.  And she doesn't draw 300,000-1million dollar salaries from her "non-profit" work.

Please folks... continue to attack Cindy McCain and see how much it endears you to swing voters who live in places like Ohio and Pennsylvania!

Yes jacksondyer, nothing says imbecile like diagnosing through internet. There are many imbecile bullies like this one. They will tell you you're juvenile or that you're crazy and need to take meds. You see, you couldn't possibly disagree with them. More to the point, charlatans like icarusr are not board-certified physicians, they're just Joe Schmo who has an opinion.

To him and to anyone who indulges in diagnosis by internet, here's my personal and very sincere wish: may YOU have brain surgery done by someone who knows as much neurosurgery as you know psichiatry.

What Irony said.

She has every right to get into the campaign; but when she is criticised, she and McCain should not then cry "wives off the table".  I must confess, I am baffled why you think I am even remotely a "leftist", a socialist, or a Soviet supporter.  Just wondering.

Eos: No one was upset that George asked "mean" questions; they were puzzled that an otherwise intelligent man was asking such inane and stupid questions.  Snarkiness does not work when you invent the object of the snark.

Nturner: "continue to attack Cindy McCain and see how much it endears you to swing voters who live in places like Ohio and Pennsylvania!"

Yeah, instead of working for a living, Michelle should rely on her Beer distribution inheritance.  We all should.  In fact, I've asked Daddy for a $100 million trust fund so that I don't have to toil away.

Any way, from what I recall, no one is actually attacking Cindy.  She just comes across as, oh, whiney; being married to a politician who is making it his trademark to go negative, it is, you gotta concede, a bit rich to get in there and complain that Dadd-, I mean, Hubby McCain is being attacked.  In any event, I was not aware that there was such a groundswell of support for imposed-upon heiresses in Ohio and Pennsylvania.  This is a whole new, and evidently overlooked, demographic.

I am not worried about the consequences of her comments as long she is not told to shut up.

Don't know if you area Soviet supporter, I would guess not. What I said is that leftists and certainly the Soviets had and have a tendency to medicalize political discourse.

Indeed so.  And the rule of thumb should be:  if you foresee the consequences, don't complain when they ensue.

OK, on a scale of one to ten? How do Senator Obama's comments compare to what George Bush said in '00? Is Barack more offensive, less offensive or about the same as W, as an opponent?

(And how much cash did you pocket when AB sold to InBev? Is pops rolling in his grave or cool that you got richer?)

Uh-oh, I think Cindy will consider you inquiry to be offensive...I do. I do. I really do. But she doesn't speak for her husband as her duties are limited to funding and buying. AKA inheriting and influencing. However, that's a private matter (and pussy-whipped is no way to speak of a war hero).

This is what really gets me about this whole deal: no one is criticizing John or Cindy for being rich; we're criticising him for being an out-of-touch with the "middle class", for being so "arrogant", "naive" and "effette" that he can't even be bothered to know how many houses he owns:

"For nearly two weeks, Democrats have repeatedly hit Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for saying he is unaware of how many houses he owns, calling the presumptive Republican presidential nominee out of touch with everyday Americans."

and yet Republicans simply write try to write their own truth in order to fight a fight they can win:

"ABC News' George Stephanopoulos reports: Democrats' attacks on her family's wealth are unfair and offensive, Cindy McCain said today "

And I have to agree that if wives are off of the table, Cindy has no business giving this interview; I realize the line is all fuzzy and pixelated, but there are legitimate limits to the actions of those who are "off limits" (as we saw with Chelsea). To have the surrogate go beyond those limits, then continue to demand that they be off limits, is simply absurd. From where I'm sitting, it looks like McCain is trying to put his wife as a human shield: get her out there on the offensive, complain if anyone attempts to engage her, and keep hidden and quiet in the back. Pathetic.

Even if her name wasn't "Cindy", the "person" she immediately reminds me of his Cindy Lou Whoo.  I can almost  hear her saying "Santa, why?"  But it's nice to know that after her encounter with Grinch (and his subsequent redemption), she was able to grow up, inherit and marry well, and do some good works.  Good works should count for a lot. But that doesn't mean that your aired opinions can't be rebutted.
