Santa Claus vs. Sarah Palin

Or maybe this guy is just an elf?:

Rep. John Coghill, R-North Pole, sponsored the bill. In a phone interview Thursday night, he said that Palin, also a Republican, faced a constitutional dilemma but he's still disappointed by her veto.

"I would have like to have seen her stand up to the courts," Coghill said.

Turns out North Pole is an actual town near Fairbanks.

He's basically saying that she should have signed off on a law she knew was unconstitutional so she could make a big, pointless legal battle out of it. That's one cynical sprite.

I've been to North Pole, Alaska.  It's a neat place.  I guess there's no risk in making fun of Alaska, since it's going to vote Republican anyway. :)

Ever since a stampede of endangered species wrecked the town's Igloo Fair in 1973, it's been trending pretty Republican.

Actually, if it wasn't for the fact that the residents of North Pole (and Wasilla, too) consider zoning laws to be a communist plot, North Pole would seem to be zoned for churches and meth labs, given how many of each have been found there.

The communist plot aspect of zoning laws is only half joking. I recall one of the public commenters making that argument at a Wasilla-area local government meeting that was carried on public radio as I was driving through.
