John McCain was asked today about the Corsi book. After McCain made a cryptic joke, his press secretary Brooke Buchanan physically intervened: "We're not doing that."

Much like Meatloaf, McCain will do anything for Straight Talk....but he won't do that.
Good move by McCain's staffer to shut down a no-win for McCain. Anything anyone says about a pile of dogshit still comes out smelling bad. If he condemns it, he's sleeping with the enemy. If he supports it, he's insane. If he comments at any length at all, he'll be accused of trying to draw attention to it.
McCain tried to shrug it off and, as usual, when having to think on his feet he underwhelms. Big deal.
Too late. McCain stepped in it:

Obama statement:
The old John McCain used to boast about honorable politics, while the new John McCain finds Roveian smears funny. Honor is not a laughing matter. What does John McCain think is funny about an intolerant smear artist who called Pope John Paul II senile and claims the government lied about 9/11? McCain has said he wants to run an honorable campaign, but his belief that these smears are funny makes people question whether he now approves of the same reprehensible politics used to smear his own character eight years ago.
How about this eyebrow-raising excerpt from the linked post:
"Pickens mentioned yesterday’s Census article in a newspaper about how non-Hispanic whites would no longer be the majority in 2042. 'You [McCain] and I won't have to worry about that,' Pickens said jokingly, referring to the age of the two men."
Also, considering McCain seems to refer to every attack on Obama as humorous, when will McCain begin to take this election seriously?
McCain's spokesman now claims he didn't hear the question. I guess being old has its advantages!
Mike already noted the McCain campaign's attempts to shield the candidate from questions about Jerome
Brilliant, adaglas, just brilliant.
gchernack, I believe it because the answer doesn't make sense.
and williamyard, how is it sleeping with the enemy to disavow libelous garbage? He could say "There are lots of real reasons not to vote for Obama, and nobody should have to resort to lying about him in order to win an election." But no. Because McCain already has resorted to lying about him, which makes that position kind of hard for him to take.
Yeah, that was hilarious when these ghouls claimed McCain's daughter was a bastard black child from a prostitute! I laughed my arse off, I'm sure he did too, it was a riot.
"I believe it because the answer doesn't make sense"
It makes perfect sense to me; his excuse about the Paris-Britney ad was that it was supposed to be funny, and that people need to grow a sense of humor. It sounds like he's trying to chalk up the book to "humor" to me. I'll give him that it is a joke, but I ain't laughing.
But the Paris/Britney ad is at least stretchable into a joke, and Corsi's book just is not. Is McCain that stupid?
