He's holding a fundraiser in London. Can you imagine if John Kerry--or either of the current Democrats--tried that? It would be a Fox News Mardi Gras

Oh no. Only if they tried to hold a fundraiser in Paris. London good -- Thacher, Blair. Paris bad -- everyone post le marquis de LaFayette
Mikey -- would you have felt better if McCain had held a fundraiser in Dublin instead?
Well, London is the center of the global financial elite who have been the driving force behind "free" trade, pre-emptive wars, and an end to national sovereignty -- all things that McCain seems to ardently believe in. It's not surprising that British money will determine US economic and foreign policy....
Um, is that even legal? I thought non-citizens couldn't contribute to US campaigns.
Well, on this note, let's go the the second half of what Joe Strummer and the boys had to say all those years ago:
London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, an' go it alone
London calling upon the zombies of death
Quit holding out-and draw another breath
London calling-and I don't wanna shout
But when we were talking-I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no highs
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes
The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Engines stop running and the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
London is drowning-and I live by the river
er. Mike? Has it occurred to you that maybe-- ok, definitely-- he's looking to meet with and raise $$ from the huge and wealthy London-based community of US expat financial industry execs?
Sarkozy campaigned in London too. There are ~300,000 French expats in London. I'd bet there are at least that many Americans and that a high % of them work in the City, pull down high incomes, tend to be rather fiscally conservative.
When will you guys cut back on the kool aid? Can you at least try to attain a bit of critical distance here?

Sorry, tep, but this mag has gone to the dogs. What used to be TNR is now the Obama Love Mag, where those not aligned with Yes We Can are to be destroyed by any means possible.
My subscription runs out later this year. I see no reason now to renew it, especially give what CanWest has done to this mag.
I thought Obama already had. Before the primaries.
tep, I was about to say no way there are 300K yanks in London, but then I remembered that there are 40K of us here in Australia, the overwhelming majority in Sydney and Melbourne, so maybe your estimate isn't so far off base.
The US Embassy estimates there are 200,000 US expats in London. The WSJ quoted a high-end realtor as estimating that around 90,000 well-paid relocated US expat execs arrive each year in London, adding substantially to demand for high-end ($2m+ ) townhomes.
The Democrats have been all over this source of funds: findarticles.com/.../ai_n24238512
