Hillary and Health Care

So much of the time politicians just seem to be going through the motions when debating the issues. But the subject of health care always brings out a formidable passion and policy fluency in Hillary. People can call her a phony for all kinds of reasons but it's clear she really gets and cares about this stuff.

If she loses maybe she could run HHS?

Whatever Hillary touches is divisive. The last thing Obama wants is to be near her in the sequel of this campaign and in his presidential affairs. She would suck good will away from him, she would perfectly contradict his attempts to win over to his side as many former adversaries as he can. Please, Hillary, for the good of America just retire now, I know you can afford a small Caribbean island of your own anyway.

Wasn't her closing comment, um, a concession?

No way, they've crossed swords too much on health care for her to just buckle down and enforce his plan. I don't think that's in her nature either. No VP spot, no cabinet, she should just stay in the Senate and become another Ted Kennedy. Not a bad legacy.

These plaudits for Clinton mystify me.  What I saw was a person who is constitutionally incapable of leaving the subject of "no mandates" unchallenged.  Her single-minded insistence on a mandate is one of the things that brought down health care reform in 1993.  The obsessiveness and lack of flexibility I saw last night shows me she hasn't changed.

Run the HHS? Egads, that would be worse than having her as President.
