Ron Paul and the Delightful Internets

One of the many amusing sub-angles of the Ron Paul campaign is that a man who has reaped vast sums of money via the Internet has never entirely seemed to grasp it. See, for instance, this riff from today's debate:

"The Internet is delightful for finding the information, and if there's a question that I need, ask, you can find it. So I spend a lot of time getting information that was at one time in my life was very difficult to find."

"The Internet is delightful for finding the information": Indeed! But can you imagine if, say, Ted Stevens had put it that way? And yet Paul is the "Internet candidate." Go figure.

No, I can't imagine Ted Stevens putting it that way, because I can't imagine Ted Stevens finding anything in the world delightful.

Frankly, I found Paul's take on it to be...well, delightful.  He sounds like a sweet older guy who doesn't totally understand the Internet but has found a use for it and thinks it's really neat.  It's like how my dad has learned to read his favorite newspapers online, but if he accidentally navigates away from them, is totally lost.

Stevens, by contrast, sounded like someone with much less *understanding* of the Internet than Paul, and yet spoke about it with much more *authority*.

I bet Paul is embarrassed by all the money he's pulling in, or doesn't even believe it's real (after all, it's not gold bullion or anything), and won't spend it all.  He probably has a mental image of gold coins shooting through a vast array of tubes.

Someone needs to do a story on the wacky perfesser and his adoring legions of computer geeks. "Dr" Ron is all the rage in Silicon Valley. Young white male geeks seem to think their hero's going to destroy MSFT, the RIAA, and CIA DOD and USPS in one fell swoop
