JFK's 1960 Religion Speech

A short excerpt from the speech everyone's been talking about, (even though it sounds like Romney's Thursday address won't really be anything like it).

Via Swampland, here's a much longer clip from C-SPAN.

What's striking to me is that this speech could never be given today because of its emphasis on separation of religion and politics -- something that would be offensive to a great many religious right types who "dream" of a very different sort of America than did JFK.

TNR, I posted a from-the-gut comment on this great clip but the "improved" site managed to lose it, again.

Any idea when the webmasters are going to get their finger out and actually fix, what seems a fairly simple site. I mean my friend set up a site for his group and it even gives you Bold, Italics and other simple stuff with the click of a link.

Is Halliburton project managing the new site?

Its funny, this vintage stuff - funny as in interesting, I mean. What struck me was, first, what jhildner said above, and second, that to today's hyper-media-trained standards, this was actually a fairly clunky delivery. Both things kind of make you long back for those times..

Populist-- I feel your (and others') pain. Trust me, we're keenly aware of the problems. When everything will be fixed, however, I just can't say.

You know, one hidden advantage for Mitt Romney is that he already has a legion of people supporting him who are trained to do face to face, door to door voter contact.
