I'm pretty sure the headline of the year will read "Obama elected President" sometime in November.
I wish I had your confidence, bigfish. I'm not sure of anything anymore.
I dunno, when a Scaife-owned paper endorsed Hillary, if that made the headlines then *that* was headline of the year (because it translated to "Hell has frozen over").
"Patient's Ignorance Led to Surgical Error: Doctors and OP Nurses Angry"
Time is wasting and the bar was set high in '07:
"Typhoon Rips Through Cemetery; Hundreds Dead"
"Juvenile Court to Try Shooting Defendant"
"Is There a Ring of Debris Around Uranus?"
Headline of the century:
"Hitler Tamed By Prison; Released on Parole, He Is Expected to Return to Austria."

bigfish is right on the money. Although I'd prefer,"voters woke up. Obama has a new address"
Interestingly the above linked headline also appeared in the New York Times headline of December 21, 1924:
My vote for the headline of the century:
Jackson, I was going to say that your point was made such that re-posting that fake headline was not really necessary.
Then I pissed my pants and realized that that was not a fake headline.
rozenson. it was real, alright.
It was written in the same paper that also saw Stalin as some kind of working class hero and never investigated the rumors of gulags nor the Ukrainian famine.
My favorite so far this year was the Assoc. Press's 6/23/08 classic: "Everything seemingly spinning out of control"
