Did Independents Hate Palin's Speech?

We won't know until the polls start trickling out—and maybe not even then—but check out the Detroit Free Press' focus group of voters who watched Sarah Palin's speech last night. Republicans swooned, Democrats grudgingly applauded, but independents and older voters all thought the speech was a dud. They still wanted to know why Palin was even on the ticket, and her sarcastic attacks on Obama, while good for press coverage, didn't reassure anyone. (Though some of the older voters seemed to verge on sexism at times—dismissing her as "snide," a "high-school cheerleader," etc.)

Calling Palin "snide" after she was snide is sexist?

Er, "snide" is a sexist term?  Wasn't Giuliani snide as well?

Hm. It came across that way to me on first read, but maybe you're right and I'm overreacting.

Yeah, stop with the "it was sexist!!!" bullshit. Every criticism of her so far has been deemed sexist. And I'm glad the Independents have more fortitude than the wimpy Democrats to call Palin the joke of a candidate she is.

I think that she missed an opportunity to tell us what she has done as governor in sufficient detail to allow us to appreciate her experience as a reformer and executive.  Alaska has a population and a set of challenges that are distinct from all of the other states.  Why didn't she flesh out what it means that the she "took on the big oil companies"?  That she continued to claim to have opposed the bridge to nowhere casts doubt on all of her claims to be a reformer.  She has yet to answer a lot of questions about her past actions.

was Snidely Whiplash in drag or something? I never thought of snide as  gender-related term.

It's good to know that the swing voters are looking for more substance. And maybe more dignity in our higher offices.
