Let's be honest, though - aren't we all reassured by the fact that Bush is thousands of miles away from the corridors of power during a crisis?

You know, it would be a good time for Bush to co-ordinate a response to this crisis with the Chinese, get a unified front going at the UN. that is if Bush can tear himself away from the events.

One other thing, the past 8 years have not been kind to Bush. He looks as old as his father. Laura has held up very well though.

Yeah, blackie, I noticed that in the Costas interview on Sunday night.  He looks a lot like his old man now.   Only without the, you know, dignity.

That is not the women's volleyball team, that is the semi-naked beachgirl team.  Granted they are impressive athletes, but they don't follow the NFL in coverage on TV because of their skill alone.

I know y'all love snarking about him, and God knows he deserves it in so many cases, but do you really want to go on record whining about a President attending the Olympics?  Of course, in China, all he can do about the Georgian conflict is cajole and threaten, whereas if he were home in the White House, he could, er, cajole and threaten, as a matter of fact.  Or would you rather he sent in troops?

Perhaps Bush WAS leading. Certainly his relaxed presence in China sent a message to the Russians, as did, simultaneously, our diplomats.  Seems Russia has drawn back for the moment.

Who wants to get  drawn militarily into a war with Russia? Raise your hands. W

dhauck, I'm thrilled he's there, where he can just be tasteless in front of cameras every single day, rather than doing things that have more serious consequences.

I'd be more thrilled if the braying heads weren't speculating on Obama's readiness for this moment, this 3AM moment, blah blah blah, without complaining about Bush's response, or lack of one, never mind what that response should be. But they never talk about actualities, only voter perceptions, or rather, their crazy out of touch speculations on voter perceptions [See: Cokie Roberts].

I am hoping Matt Treanor, catcher for the Florida Marlins, is not subjected to that last photo, where the prez appears to be reaching for Misty May's posterior.  Seeing as how Matt Treanor is married to Misty May and all.  That could be an interesting White House visit later this year if the Marlins should somehow sneak through and win another World Series..."Mr. President, what were you doing with my wife's ... ?"
