Comment of the Day: Candidate Cardio

At the Stump, Mike refuted speculation that Obama’s extra-long gym sessions were hidden meetings with VP candidates by arguing that Obama just wanted to buff up his slim physique to look more presidential before the election in November.  In the comments, Typical called our coverage uneven, and wished to learn more about McCain’s gym time as well:

Where is the blurb about McCain's shuffleboard workouts (or vigorous Bingo! sessions as it were)?  I can't be expected to decide this election with such a paucity of coverage on the exercise habits of the Republican candidate.  Let's have some balance!

Screw you, Typical.  John McCain had his arms broken several times for your sins.  So, he's not quite up to the big workout of Mr. Hawaii & Harvard.

But, McCain has something called character.  It's almost as good as great abbs.

Asshole.

McCain seems to equate liberals with "extremists" and misrepreented ratings on  liberal voting.  In my opinion, when McCain said in an interview with the Kansas City Star that Obama had been "given rhe label of an extremist'"  McCain was la known distortion (lie?)..  McCain should have been very aware that Obama, along with Hillary Clinton, were identified by the National Journal as two Senators whose votes were consistently liberal.  The Journal did not indicate that they were "extremists."

In the interview, the reporter should have asked why McCain opposed to legislation that would eliminate the "Enron Loophole"  that  was inserted into previous legislation by Senator Phil Gramm to allow Enron speculation in energy futures without government regulation.  To avoid government interference with Enron's speculation in energy futures, Senator Gramm's wife, Wendy, was put in charge of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and did nothing during her time at the CFTC to regulate Enron activities.  When Wendy left the CFTC, she was given a job by Enron, where she was paid about $1 million over a period of years.  It is not clear what Wendy did at Enron.

Channy, I think typical was commenting more on the vapidity of coverage speculating on the work-out habits of the candidates, and playing into the stereotypes.   Not insulting McCain- other than the inane "McCain is old!" jokes, which might have also been a comment on the media as well.

boneill, if that is the case, then you will have to put me in the category of all the Obamanistas who missed (willfull?  stupidly?) the pro-Obama irony of The New Yorker cover.

Especially since I posted this in two threads, I'll give Typical's post a closer, slower reading to see if I'm the dumbass or if he is.

So McCain is Jesus now, Chan?

I also thought "typical" was commenting on the silliness of the issue, certainly in the context of the campaign.

Also, none of us missed the pro-Obama irony of the New Yorker cover, we [speaking for myself and I think a ton of others] just predicted that the irony would be completely lost on a lot of other people who would see the cover. Which it was.

I will defend "typical" over the New Yorker just because t's comment was buried in this little hothouse of handwringers, where we work things out amongst ourselves, and not on the cover of a national magazine. If they'd put that cartoon in the middle, there would have been no controversy - or so I like to think.

And maybe typical meant it how you took it. I took it to mean that the topic was silly because of course McCain couldn't compete in this "event" - and should he?

Wow, didn't think that would stir up such vitriol.  It was a throwaway comment in the midst of a silly thread on a ridiculous topic and was not out of line with a whole range of similar posts mocking the relevancy of the subject.

Although, shuffleboard and Bingo! was a cheap shot, I'll grant you.  Lighten up!
