Spreading It On A Little Thick

The new issue of Portfolio is out and it features an interesting profile by Lloyd Grove about Katherine Weymouth, current Washington Post publisher and granddaughter of legendary Post publisher Katherine Graham. In addition to a sexy shot of Weymouth, her “lithe frame dancer-straight,” posing as though she herself were actually laying out the newspaper, there is a two-page spread of her with her children (see above). It’s like a centerfold shot; no text, just the family photo. Over two pages. Does Portfolio just have money to burn, or what?

Look at those kids. Mmmmmm.

'Course, they look a little on the skinny side. I'd fatten 'em up for a few months--corn, oats mainly, until they're well-marbled. You want to be able to slow-cook them without the flesh drying out.

Being caucasian they're likely bland, so I'd go with a sweet, honey-based sauce--you don't want to overwhelm the flavor of the meat with anything too sharp. And something light--a lager, maybe--to wash it all down.

Invite some friends over, set up the ping-pong table in the driveway, hook up the iPod to the outdoor speakers and, freinds, you got yourself a party!

Barbecued publisher's children--it doesn't get any better than that!

When Grove was at the WaPo, his email address was "grovel@washpost.com". That always struck me as perfectly apt.
