As Mike Murphy Turns (cont'd)

Is the soap opera about to end? Marc Ambinder reports that it is:

Republican strategist Mike Murphy, caught in a whirlpool of competing currents, does not expect to join the McCain campaign as a strategist, Murphy and people familiar with the situation said this morning.

Though Murphy has told associates that McCain asked him to come aboard ten days ago, he has come to believe that the press speculation about his arrival has become a maelstrom of insanity and is damaging McCain. By the end of the day, it will be clear, said two people directly familiar with the situation, that Murphy will not be joining the campaign.

But then what will we have to blog about?

I'm just enjoying the title of this post and the thought of Mike Murphys big noggin, little tuft of hair on top amess, slowly turning to the sound of a theme song.  Anyone want to name that tune?

I'm sure Mike Krzyzewski is up to something nefarious.

All this internal campaign drama and finger pointing sounds strangely reminiscent of Hillary Clinton's campaign.

This is my first time really following the drama of political campaigns so intensely, but I think a good way of gauging the efficiency and strong management of a campaign is the ability to name as few players as possible; I look at Obama's campaign and the only names I can think of are Axelrod, Plouffe, and maybe Robert Gibbs or Bill Burton. And that's it. But, if any informed reader looks at Clinton's campaign, you can easily role off a whole slew of names: Penn, Wolfson, Maggie Williams, Patti Solis Doyle, Harold Ickes, Phil Singer, Terry McAuliffe--who are all these people?! How many different names for campaign strategist can you come up with for goodness sake! I think the same thing is going on right now in the McCain campaign, and the more I read about these internal debates, the more I believe the argument that managing a campaign really does reflect strongly on how an administration will be run and decision's executed.

"It was a time of uncertainty, hope and change.  While others gorged themselves on barbeque and Coca-Cola, Mike Krzyzewski was half a world away, putting his country before Nike, polls and self."
