Ralph Nader, Righteous Black Man

I know it's tough for Ralph Nader to get anyone to pay attention to his presidenital bid this time around, but you think he'd at least have enough sense not to court attention by saying stuff like this:

"There's only one thing different about Barack Obama when it comes to being a Democratic presidential candidate. He's half African-American," Nader said. "Whether that will make any difference, I don't know. I haven't heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos. Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What's keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white? He doesn't want to appear like Jesse Jackson? We'll see all that play out in the next few months and if he gets elected afterwards."

Well, I guess someone has to play the Al Sharpton role in this campaign, since even Sharpton is evidently unwilling to.

Does Ralph Nader think he can sway ANY African American voters with this?  Judging from the personal dilusion he must have by running for president, he might be diluded enough to think he has credibility with inner-city blacks. Because when I think "ghetto," my mind never jumps to "Green Party." I'm pretty sure he has about as much clout with the black community as Philip Glass.

(Yes! I made my quota of having at least one Philip Glass reference per day!)

I personally would have thought - now, paint me ignorant or naïve if you will - that after 2000, whatever Nader might want to say, it would not be "there is no difference between a Republican and a Democrat in the White House."  Which is what he saying right now.  I mean, he can certainly try to run on a platform that promises the Leftwing world and that criticises Obama for not having a Socialist Platform.  But to say that Obama's being black is "one thing different" between him and McCain is the sort of delusional idiocy that deserves derision, constant and unremitting derision, regardless of the man's background.

Hmm.  I wonder if Geraldine Ferraro would consider running as Nader's VP.

I've never had any opinions of Nader.  Didn't blame him for 2000/2004, didn't care one way or the other.  But as AA raised in the "ghetto"  and who still has family who live in the "ghetto" streets of New Orleans, let me tell you I'm insulted.  There is no such thing as "speaking white", it's called speaking proper grammer.  I've never been one to speak much slang in "polite" company.  Yes if/when I'm with "my peeps" I may revert to an occasional slang term.

Nader is an idiot.

Hasn't Nadar hit 6% in some national polls?
