The Softening Has Begun

Watched Michelle O on "The View" this morning. I'm sure the crazies will be parsing her appearance for signs of black rage or hormonal imbalance that I failed to pick up on, but she certainly seemed to do a fine job: she said nothing newsworthy, played nice with Hasselback, graciously acknowledged Whoopie's praise for helping dispel some of the more pernicious stereotypes of black women (but in no way advanced that line of discussion), and mentioned daughters Sasha and Malia every chance she got. Her black-and-white floral frock (sleeveless, of course) made her look pretty but not threatening, and she and Babs even had some girly discussion about the evils of pantyhose. What gal can't relate to that?

I watched her at the gym, and I thought she gave exactly the right kind of non-threatening, content-free performance called for.  The Hasselbeck nicey-nicey was a bit much, but obviously necessary.  (And I loved how self-aggrandizing Hasselbeck herself was at the beginning.)

I think Michelle Obama did really well on "The View".  As for Hasselbeck, I'm no fan anyway.  If I wanted to watch a pseudo "Sean Hannity" impersonation with my morning coffee, I'd watch Fox & Friends.  I just find Hasselbeck to be really disingenous.  I was no big fan of Rosie O'Donnell either, but I totally got her point when she went after Hasselbeck for saying one thing on-air to prove her "conservative" street cred with the Fox News crowd, but off-air being totally the opposite.

Anyway, Hasselbeck is suppose to be on Sean Hannity tonight.  Let's see what she says about Michelle Obama then.
