McCain's Speech

Excerpt here. Interestingly, he is presenting Obama as a tool of special interests.

I've always thought the problem with certain McCain speeches--this one included--is that he seems so unenthused when giving them. He keeps repeating the line, "That's not change we can believe in," but his tone and smile suggest that he finds the line to be, well, somewhat lame. That being said, there is no denying the contempt he has for Obama's talk of shaking up Washington.

Great timing, McCain: Supposed to start at 8:30, didn't bother to get off the stage before all the networks called the Nomination for Obama.  Given that they wanted to do this so they'd get on TV tonight, that adds up to FAIL.

Not only was it unenthused, it was

(a) delivered before a relatively tiny and non-telegenic crowd,

(b) telegraphing McCain's entire--and exceedingly lame--general election strategy,

(c) full of obvious and unmitigated bullshit, and

(d) interrupted at the historic moment Obama clinched the nomination.

It's not a good start for McCain. And man, have I lost a ton of respect for that man.

Hmm. Watching McCain's speech, I couldn't help but think McCain may end up suffering from gravitas gap with Obama.

Mr. Anti-lobbyist has turned his campaign over to lobbyists. He is treading on very thin ice here. He may regret raising this flag, if he does it very often.

As I posted on the other thread, McCain is starting to sound like the old guy doing the Country Time Lemonade commercials.

What a terrible speech.  I'm surprised he didn't refer to Obama as "wet behind the ears" or some other cornball phrase straight off the porch.
