Karl Rove's Memory Remains Shaky

Karl Rove, writing in today's Wall Street Journal:

This will be a very difficult year for Republicans. The economy's shaky state, an unpopular war, and the natural desire for partisan change after eight years of one party in the White House have helped tilt the balance to the Democrats.

Gee, Karl, any other factors you're leaving out here? Republican scandals and incompetence? The most unpopular president in the history of polling?

Well, Mr. Chait, the Rover is a master at spin. This is beyond parody, however. Imagine transporting Rove back into time to the 1976 election in which he bobbed and weaved for the Republicans: "Yes, we have hit a rough patch, we are experiencing stagflation, a couple of years back we were slammed by the oil embargo, last year we had to deal with the fallout from the takeover of South Vietnam by the North and the Cambodian seizure of the Mayaguez but our resolute actions showed them that we meant business". Notice, no mention of the Watergate scandal nor of the pardon of R.M. Nixon by G.R. Ford.

I've come to firmly believe in reincarnation since watching Rove - he's really Rasputin all over again.

Add to that list corruption, wiretaps, Gonzalez, Guantanamo, messing with the constitution, etc. etc. etc. . . . . .  the list seems endless.
