Last Chance to Become a Plank-er

Tomorrow is the deadline for applications to next year's reporter-researcher internship. So, if you've got some journalism experience and want to join the team, send us your stuff. We're still accepting applications for the summer web internship, so keep that in mind as well.

You guys should just give it to williamyard.  Although he might demand a nap from 1-4 PM with his belt unbuckled.

bcbaird -- ha!  Can a dirty old man be hired as an intern?  I sure hope so. A far flung correspondent perhaps?

hey, why would they pay Yard when he already gives it to us for free?

by the way TNR, if you are interested in a true far flung correspondent and want to know all the latest happenings in Ixtepec; Oaxaca, Mexico. I am your man. I will give you a little hint as to what happened this month.

Marcos Zarate Gomez sold his cow this month. That is all. Do you want pictures? So how much can I earn?

Blackie,

You and WilliamYard are worth every penny we pay you.

Real authentic complaints from the farthest reaches of the globe.

Keep up the good work.

William Y - there is not enough money out there to pay your real worth.

I appreciate the sentiment, but giving a whole bunch of money to a man who parlayed an extended adolescence into a successful mid-life crisis is probably not a good idea.

I mean, imagine if I could afford to, say, go to China and have them rip out my liver and in its place install one harvested from some poor executed Falun Gong teenager. Me, with money and a teenage liver? Bad craziness, as Hunter used to say.

stgla writes, re: williamyard: "Can a dirty old man be hired as an intern?"

Maybe TNR should enlist Mr. Yard's services to, er, train the interns. . .

I like it.

First order of business: dress code.  Think "St. Ginger's School for Pulchritudinous Runaways."

Next up: calisthentics. I have a battle-worn copy of "Buns of Steel" around here somewhere.

And then there's discipline. [williamyard pauses to wipe chin drool on sleeve...]  I'm stern. But I'm fair.

I thought we had lost you...

as I have said before, bill y at tnr would be a great idea. Yard has always been on his game, every post a gem, and his swashbuckling elan would be a breath of fresh air...

and just so you all know, he ain't that old, he ain't dirty, and if truth be told, he is really rather dashing, in an Alan Hale Sr. sort of way...

Mr. Yard-

Somehow I knew, I just knew, you'd be up to the job. . .

Well, this new format is so unpleasant, it makes my visits here quite a bit less frequent.

But glad to be back on the same thread again with you and williamyard and blackton and the gang.

Perhaps if Mr. Yard's services, so to speak, were procured here at TNR--to train those new (and intellectually nubile) interns, spice up the xmas party, write a regular (and prominently displayed) blog--I'd find my way back to Talkback Town much more often.

Should TNR class up its act,/

Perhaps let down its guard?/

Then hire the Sonoma Hooker's guy,/

The matchless William Yard./

Are the blogs too bland and boring/?

Is the format badly marred?/

They sadly need a seedy jolt/

From the irreverent William Yard./

If it's true you love democracy,/

Then claim its crusty bard./

We Talkbackers have spoken./

Our candidate: William Yard./

good one Jack, but I think hiring Will would be like putting a leash on a tomcat. Just let him run free. Can he really replicate his muse for a deadline?

"don't forget..."  /tomeg

Domani -- forget domani,

Let's live for now and anyhow

Who needs domani?

The moonlight -- let's share the moonlight,

Perhaps together we will never be again.

Ah, che luna -- oh, che mare

With such a moon and such a sea,

And you and me.

I get so dizzy when you're standing near

It's not the music that you hear,

My heart is beating like a jungle drum.

Let's take the minutes as they speed away

And hope it's true what people say:

When you're in love to-morrow never comes.

Let's forget about tomorrow,

Let's forget about tomorrow,

Let's forget about tomorrow for

Tomorrow never comes!

and so on...

It doesn't fit, but perhaps I'm still thinking about Clinton's team thinking up themes to win with.

Depends on the compensation.

As for compensation, I think Mr. Yard, acting as TNR's new Intern Head Supervisor, could be induced, on your behalf, to part with two (intellectually nublie) newbies and one (somewhat used) cigar. . .

If the internship's a leash, as blackton worries, they should just give williamyard the ability to post on the Plank, and pay him per post. I'm completely totally for that. Do it, TNR.
