Almost Exactly 50-50

Chuck Todd on MSNBC is going through the delegate count. His projection for total delegates awarded tonight: Obama 841, Clinton 837 (plus or minus ten in either direction, he says).

This is going to be interesting.

How did the state count turn out?

I've got it at Obama 14, Hillary 8.

The most interesting observation tonight, to me, was how Obama - a former community organizer - spent his money on organization in the caucus states. It paid off for him as he won all of them - or almost all of them. Smart strategy.

That's extremely good for Obama if the delegate totals are nearly even. He was expected to lose by upwards of 100 delegates as recently as a week ago.

Odds of my worst nightmare are increasing:

Obama holds slight delegate lead going into the convention.  There is a "floor fight" regarding whether or not to seat the Florida and Michigan delegations.  Seating the delegations would put Clinton over the top.  Motion is rejection, Obama wins the nomination, but resentment in FL and MI lead to those states going for McCain in the fall.

Wait, I thought this was an amazing comeback for Hillary!  Still, the 'who won' post is sobering.

david, this all can be avoided if Fla. and Michigan have a vote that counts. It is definitely within the rules, and this time they can be kingmakers.

I'm with blackton, can you imagine the excitement the FL and MI Dem parties could generate by announcing a primary in early April?  They would get all that they wanted by moving early, and then some because they are crucial...
