For your amusement, here's Hugh Hewitt (who hates John McCain) attacking Ann Coulter (who also hates John McCain) for hating John McCain so much she says she'll support Hillary Clinton if he's the nominee:

If Ann Coulter's declares again that she'd campaign for Hillary at CPAC, she will be booed and rightly so.  Not only did her grandstanding on Hannity & Colmes divert attention from the real issue before conservatives --the need to abandon the idea of voting for Huckabee or Paul and rally to Romney-- she further fractures an already deeply divided GOP.

The Hannity & Colmes segment in question, which has to be seen to be believed, is here:

Hillary says she will pull out of Iraq; McCain says it would be okay with him if we stay in Iraq for 1,000 years.  I think there's a sizable difference there that Ann seems to have missed.  I knew she was mean-spirited, but I am surprised at her apparent stupidity.

Neil, Hillary has said again and again that she wants to end the war in Iraq "the right way", a phrase she uses very deliberately, and she's never committed to any time limit on U.S. involvement. In fact she's made no commitments on Iraq that differ materially from the Bush/McCain approach of staying as long as necessary to leave behind a stable Iraq.

McCain: I want to improve the situation in Iraq, and then I'll withdraw troops.

Hillary: I want to withdraw troops, but only when the situation in Iraq has improved.

The only meaningful daylight between McCain and Hillary is that McCain is honest with voters about his intentions, whereas Hillary tries very hard to leave the implication that she's really not for an indefinite presence. Frustrates me to no end the degree to which anti-war Democrats are bending over backwards to pretend that Hillary is on their side. She is not, and never has been.

But I love the meme here: "Ann Coulter Endorses Hillary."

That's the thing about the zeitgeist: nobody ever possesses it, but everybody thinks they do.

So when the zeitgeist moves on, the cheerleaders of its former incarnation, too solipsistic to smell the flammable denouement leaking around them, are left to screech and claw at one another like caged monkeys when the lit match falls.

(Except, of course, caged monkeys burning to death would be tragic.)

Ann has a "Rocky Horror" quality that's pretty fascinating. I would have loved to see her in Lara Flynn Boyle's role in "Men in Black II". Amazing alien babe comes to earth, wiping out everything in its path.

Maybe she'd have a shot in "Men in Black III: GOP Resurrection". Her homunculus friend Bill Maher would be a great sidekick, sort of a cranky Artemis Gordon, smart and bumbling.

Even though as a progressive Democratic I normally find what Ann Coulter says to be revolting, I actually never wanted to sleep with her so much in my life as I do after seeing that clip.  It makes me think that maybe Hillary can actually beat McCain in a general election if he is this hated by conservatives.

As wandrey said in another thread, it is great to see Hugh and Ann and especially Rush feel their power slipping away.  They are dinosaurs; and they see the meteor (that's what's known as a "stupid metaphor", kids).   I heard Rush blithering about how real Republicans weren't voting for McCain so it didn't matter, he didn't represent the Republicans.  To me that could mean two things.

1) Possibly, but he is winning, so so what

2) Rush's "real Republicans" are an increasingly small minority.   His power is going away.  I can't wait for him to splutter his way into an increasingly corpulent oblivion.

Ann is a media thing and thrives on controversy. She's already received good milage on that little tirade. Hey, old Rushbo, Hannity, and others are worried about their powers. At least their self perceptions of power. Same with Krugman. They have molded themselves according to the times which they lived. But lived is a past tense word and these folks are intimidated by McCain and Obama. I like what is happening. About time we got off the frickin dime. I'd like to see our collective appetites for self righteousness go on a strict diet. It's a hard thing to be deprived of that oh so good feeling of superiority. Hey. The left is as  adamant about such assumptions as the right ever was. In fact they deserve each other.

Are there assholes out there? Yep. Just leave them in their caves and try to do the next right thing.

I think you have incorrectly stated Hillary's position.

I was for Edwards, now Obama, and would support Hillary if she gets the nomination - so I'm not here to make her case - but she has clearly stated that her priority is to withdraw in a well-planned manner, placing the emphasis on how we do it rather than on when it would be completed.  I think Obama has made a clearer commitment, but to be fair to Hillary, the differences appear to be cosmetic.

That was made quite apparent a couple of weeks ago - in Nevada, perhaps? - when Edwards pressed both Hillary and Obama to clarify their commitments to get out completely.  Listening to that debate, there was no substantial difference between Hillary and Obama.  Bill Clinton was right - there are some fairy tales being told.

I prefer Obama because I think he can pull off a realignment of our current stalemated politics, but I really don't think his Iraq policy will be any different than Hillary's would be (although I would trust him to read the intelligence reports - Hillary, not so much).

It was an uplifting, refreshing and heartening debate.  When Hillary "clarified the record" about the drivers' licenses for illegals, I started yelling "Noooooooooo!!" at the top of my lungs, because I was so afraid it would devolve into another snipefest.  But no, it turned out better than I could have hoped, with two candidates looking presidential, intelligent and mutually respectful.  (Dare I say their tete-a-tete afterward looked genuinely friendly?)

And what mug?  Oh, you mean THIS mug?  The one I have right here by my computer?  (Admittedly, sitting here waiting for patients to show up in the MIDDLE OF A SNOWSTORM IN MAINE!!)

Has everyone seen the Al Franken - Ann Coulter "debate" from a few months back? It's a YouTube classic. Hysterical. Franken was brilliant. If Franken gets the nod in Minnesota, the debates will be collector's items. His opponent, Norm Coleman, is also very bright and very fast, but he is incredibly smug and pious.

Check out the Coulter - Franken exchange.

I think where Ann's coming from is that it's so damn frustrating that conservatives never really get a CHOICE which is so maddening that it drives one to voting for an ideologic opposite in hopes that that after assuming power that person's policies will fail so miserably that we will then have a "contract with America"-type change of order. This works the other way too. People should be so pissed that Hillary won't commit to ending Iraq immediately that they vote for Ron Paul, the ensuing mayhem  then leading to among other things UHC.
