Unity08 In A State Of Disunity

Not that it was unexpected, but Unity08's founders, old media hands Gerald Rafshoon and Doug Bailey, have just left to work on drafting Bloomberg, taking most of the credibility and experience Unity08 ever had with them and leaving celebrity promoter Sam Waterston to his own devices. Will he form a joint L&O ticket with Thompson? Fans can only dream .....

Bloomberg combines far left-liberalism with blind devotion to Bush's Iraq war policy. Yeah. Our country needs him right now.

what a joke. somebody in the media needs to start TRASHING this guy. his money doesn't qualify him for President.

What a complete f***wad Bloomberg is! He's easily the most left-leaning candidate in the race and would without question take votes away from any Dem candidate. It's his raging billionaire's ego, not any political or other logic, that prevents Mike from drinking bad coffee in people's houses and trudging through the snow like every other presidential aspirant.

This smug little man thinks he's demonstrating his contempt for the process. In fact he's showing his unmatched contempt for the public. Screw him.

Bloomberg is the poster child for campaign finance reform.

This year we actually have races in both parties between intelligent public citizens, for the most part, who can stake out various positions on any number of issues, as well as demonstrate a broad spectrum of character qualities. Not that I agree with all of them or even most of them, but the fields are interesting and competitive, and the process itself is bringing great benefit to all of us, for a change.

Then along comes Bloomberg, with absolutely nothing to add but money.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: we are a great nation in large part because of the two-party system.  It's a thing of beauty, which any fan of democracy can quickly realize and which anyone with integrity must respect.

Bloomberg is no fan of democracy and no man of integrity.

Now, on the Law & Order ticket, would Waterston still have to play bitch to Thompson?  Where would the token young female attorney fit on the platform?  Secretary of State?  Attorney General?

Here's hoping this man's repulsive little stunt causes a backlash against the recent trend of gazillionaire interlopers trashing the parties and doing end-runs around process via 527s.

Or using their gazillions to create bogus "grass-roots" movements comprising mainly unabomber-style internet wackos who've never the seen the inside of either a union hall or a caucus or a church social.

Agreed, Bloomberg is a complete bozo.  Agreed, Yard is right about the 2-party system.

But, you know, in a year that doesn't look too good for my side, I wouldn't cry too hard if Bloomie took a run.  The Kos/Moveon crowd would love him, leftie that he is.

adaglas,

Yes, thank you for the note-perfect response to all of this.  I appreciated the laugh.

Goodness, what is it about New York that seems to create these egotists waiting to be begged to run for office.  Yeesh.

bloomberg will run if Hillary is in the general but not if Obama is. just another reason to vote for Obama if we want to win in November.
