Kerry Endorses Obama

Like the title says. I don't know if this helps Obama much, but, if nothing else, Kerry's endorsement could come in handy in Massachusetts on February 5, where Obama already has the support of Deval Patrick.

P.S. Of course, the one endorsement from a Democratic nominee that would help is Gore's, but I recently asked a couple plugged-in Democratic politicos if they thought he'd ever pull the trigger, and they all said they doubted it. Their thinking was that, post-Nobel, Gore's almost above that sort of thing.

and jason, let's not forgot Gore's ill-advised Howard Dean endorsement in December 03. Ouch, bad flashback...but not as bad as endorsing Joe Lieberman in January 04 by a magazine that shall not be named...

Don't count on it.

Our Governor hasn't done much since he was elected. Besides the fact that Obama has been using the same slogans Patrick used during his election campaign won't help him much.

'Kerry Endorses Obama'

My condolences to Barack Obama, his family, friends, campaign staff and hangers on.

Oddly enough, I am still getting email from John Kerry's list, but I haven't received one in several weeks. And none today. From 2004 to 2007, it seemed like John Kerry couldn't pee without sending me an email announcing that he would soon make a big announcement, then later in the day another email with the announcement, and then a third email asking for money to support the purpose of the big announcement. Not even the Hillary campaign sent so much email, but none lately.

Given how the 2004 campaign was run, I can just see John Kerry doing a little year-end cleanup around the office. He picks up the hard drive with his email list on it, thinks, "you know, it's been months since anybody responded to one of those emails, and I'm not running this time," so he tosses it into the hard-drive shredder. Then, a week later, he decides to endorse Obama.

This has to be seen primarily as a slap at John Edwards, no?

Isn't it time we stop beating up on John Kerry? I admit to getting in a few zingers at his expense. And I know nobody was particularly enamored with him, he was not a great candidate, and he lost to Bush. But it wasn't like he got Mondaled; it was a pretty close election, remember.

My vote isn't going to be swayed by what he says today; but he was our party's last nominee and has earned the right to say whatever it is he wants to. So I for one, won't listen but won't mock him for getting involved either.

adam...

my guess is that John Kerry's endorsement, light as it may be in the final analysis, is far weightier than the airy tnr nod, made almost ridiculous by the Lieberman moment of insanity...

jaunty, if that's what we’re calling you these days,

In defense to TNR, the Lieberman endorsement was only ridiculous if they were trying to pick a winner--in which case it's hilarious ("we're in a virtual three way tie for third!")

But if the endorsement was just that--TNR statement on which candidate they support based on issues--then the Lieberman endorsement was a no-brainer. TNR was, at the time, a big supporter of the Iraq war with center-left views on domestic issues; just like Lieberman. So I don't think the Lieberman nod was ridiculous.

I think Lieberman is ridiculous, but that's other story.

yes,  your context is correct. It was a primary only endorsement...which may reduce it from ridiculous to merely laughable...or Quixotic, in a weird fellow travelin' neo con way...

Those whose support Kerry's endorsement wins for Obama will not elect the next president.  Those who voted against Kerry in 2004 elect presidents, not the feelgood wing of the Democratic party, who continue to drive this Obama trainwreck.

Jim--and you think Hillary's the one to take us to the White House?  Because she's so massively loved by over 50 percent of the electorate?

Kerry's endorsement is a big nothing.  The man wanted a photo op, he got it.  His face dominated today's news cycle.
