Don't Give It To Anybody

When Josh Levin wrote this, in Slate, arguing that they should just cancel college football's national championship game, I shrugged it off as the irrational rant of a bitter Tiger fan. Now I'm coming around to his point of view (though he might feel differently now). Ohio State? Georgia? LSU? Kansas? Really? Ugh.

Now, Now... why not Hawaii?  Under the old system, it'd just be 1984 again, with an undefeated WAC team (a la BYU then) that goes, wins the Holiday Bowl, and is National Champ.  Instead, we get to listen to all the whining from every 2 loss team out there, and then the ungodly awful whining from the NFL soaked Playoff Batallion, when this season's unpredictable nature and upset after upset shows that the regular season makes College Football great, and that you gotta win out to control your destiny.  The same people that whine that the regular season doesn't eliminate teams are those whining for their team to back in!  Sheesh!  TNR had a great article on this a while back, clearly they should reprint this every fall.

Some years, there's a clear choices.  In others, there aren't any good ones.

I think Ray Glier's argument for a BCS is better than the arguments for a playoff:

Mike Celizic agrees:

Correction:  "In some years, there are clear choices.  In others, there aren't any good ones".  A correction to my crippled opening line in my first post.
